Find out how much money your practice is leaving on the table

In your billing software, look for a monthly "Charges" or "Production" report — it's the total dollar amount of all claims you sent to insurance last month.

The "Payments" or "Collections" total for the month — what actually hit your bank account from insurance and patients combined.

Run the "A/R Aging" or "Accounts Receivable" report — the grand total at the bottom is this number.

Same A/R Aging report — add the "91-120" and "120+" columns. This is the money most at risk of never being collected.

Office visits are billed as codes 99212 (quick) through 99215 (complex). Many practices bill too many visits at the cheaper levels out of caution — it's one of the most common ways money is lost. Your billing software's "CPT frequency report" shows this.
